The Intelligent Community Forum is a think tank that studies the economic and social development of the 21st Century community, based in New York, New York. The ICF seeks to share the best practices of the world's Intelligent Communities in adapting to the demands of the Broadband Economy, in order to help communities everywhere find sustainable renewal and growth.

Virtual incubator aimed at helping entrepreneurs
Entrepreneurs have a new helping hand in Windsor. It’s called a virtual business incubator and the people involved help businesses grow.
They “will work closely with entrepreneurs to mould their business models for international growth, to develop management teams that have the ability to execute growth plans and to provide access to seed and early-stage funders,” said Mark Meldrum, director of the Odette Project for Technology Innovation and Commercialization.

The Windsor Essex Development Commission (WEDC) asked Drs. Akshai Aggarwal of School of Computer Science and Mark Meldrom of Odette School of Business, to finalize an application for submission to the "Communities in Transition" program. The proposal was submitted to the Province of Ontario and was awarded $600,000 for a three year Virtual incubator (VI) program.

Grant to Stimulate Economic Development

Drawing on the expertise of the Odette School of Business, the UWindsor School of Computer Science, the Windsor-Essex Development Commission and local financial institutions, the as-yet-unnamed body will help researchers bring commercial products to market.
"This initiative plays a key role in creating opportunities for our local economy," said development commission chair Remo Mancini.
Allan Conway, dean of the Odette School of Business, said that technical commercialization is critical for economic success.
